Tunnel Excavation Software | Excavation monitoring

One of the keys for sound engineering management of infrastructure projects is to be able to have access to quality transparently audited information as quickly as possible. Maxwell GeoSystems’ web-based MissionOS system is developed to provide quick access to all site technical data, at any given time & location and with powerful tools to aid analysis and reporting. In an age where communication and easy access to information are vital factors for Engineers, Consultants, Stakeholders and Owners for the analysis, interpretation and decision-making, the demand for setting up web-based Integrated Data Management Systems for small and large scale infrastructure projects has increased in recent years. Maxwell GeoSystems has recently developed a module of its MissionOS system, catering specifically to Shaft and Tunnel Excavation works, that is designed to provide timely and sufficient information on instrumentation data combined with construction related works. Engineers & Con...

Geotechnical Process Control | Risk analysis in construction industry

Client-Contractor Collaboration for Integrated TBM Process and Geotechnical process Control – Power Grid Cable Tunnels Singapore For many years partnering has been a well-established principle for promoting a “best for project” culture within a construction contract. This endeavors to remove the adversarial nature of classical “engineer’s design” contracts by openly discussing issues which may impact on project performance and look to engineer ways to mitigate them within the terms of the contract. These discussions rely on information and often the data available to client, engineer and contractor is incomplete, different or ‘selectively’ chosen to support a particular point of view. On many contracts clients have implemented project wide systems either independent of the main contractor or as part of the contractor’s specification and these have seldom provided the common information base desired in order to facilitate the partnering approach. The Powergrid Cables tunnels in S...

Gls monitoring | Sydney metro central station expansion

MissionOS is deployed on the Sydney Metro Central Station Expansion . Maxwell GeoSystems is providing its cutting-edge Data Management system, MissionOS, for GLS Monitoring on the major construction works for Sydney Metro’s Central Station. Works consist of a new 27-meter deep metro station box next to the existing Central station precinct with about 6,000 tonnes of crushed rock excavated each week. In addition, an 80-meter long, 19-meter-wide construction tunnel was excavated under 10 live tracks to deliver the Central Walk. Due to the requirement for uninterrupted rail service, MissionOS is serving as the primary risk management tool, providing real-time notifications of any extensive movements and automated report generation. Sydney Metro – Central Station Main Works instrumentation produces data in many formats. The Generic Data Loader (GDL) is user-configurable and can transfer text file based data into MissionOS databases. MissionOS accepts raw data and performs calculation...

Geotechnical slope stability analysis software

The long term monitoring of the behavior of structural elements such as retaining walls, tiebacks and anchoring at slopes, especially for those which are pre-stressed, should be carried out in order to study the actual performance of strain or deflection compared to the design. Often there is a requirement for on-going site monitoring for a period of 2 to 5 years after construction is completed. It is neither practical or economic to continuously take the readings manually after the main active period. MissionOS, is a reliable system which can communicate with the data logger of in-place probe inclinometers and strain gauges remotely, sending out notifications of any unexpected behavior automatically. The reporting and archiving system can feed the raw data back as reports, tables and graphs in any template, or alternatively, automatically archive them into a project library based on a predefined schedule. A real-time 3D model is also available to view the readings against a visi...

Earls court exhibition center demolition | Demolition of monitoring solution

The Earls Court Masterplan will transform the former exhibition center’s site in west London, into a vibrant new district with thousands of new homes, retail and commercial development opportunities, enhanced transport infrastructure and a major new London park. Maxwell GeoSystems’ partners, PC Monitoring, were commissioned to provide monitoring of all aspects of the demolition. As well as extensive manual monitoring, automated monitoring of the project was delivered using the cloud-based MissionOS. During the demolition phase it was necessary to monitor the London Underground and Network Rail assets which lie underneath and beside the works. A further complication was that, once the building itself had been removed, 61 colossal portal beams remained - weighing between 80 and 1500 tonnes. These were to protect the rail tunnels and infrastructure underneath. To remove the beams, a 120m Supercrane, over twice the height of London’s famous Nelson’s column, was used. The Victorian er...

Forrestfield airport link tunnel | Railway Tunnel Project

The Forrestfield-Airport Link is a 5km dual TBM bored passenger rail tunnel project, linking Perth’s eastern suburbs to rail for the first time. The project faces major challenges going forward, with tunneling under highly sensitive, critical infrastructure such as operational airport runways, and existing rail lines. In addition, the local karstic geological environment poses several tunneling issues particularly given the terrain. All monitoring data is hosted on the MissionOS system through Maxwell GeoSystems’ partnership with GLS monitoring. TheMissionOS system, along with GLS, the joint venture partner, have both been externally audited and passed by the Perth Transit Authority Airport. There are 32 instrument types incorporated in the MissionOS system scope. These include ground, rail, and structure monitoring points through tilt-meters, inclinometers, extensometers, to vibration monitors, water observation wells, and weather stations. Even battery health for system telemet...

Singapore power assets | Singapore-power-assets-cable-tunnels

Maxwell GeoSystems collaborated with Singapore Power Assets and contractors Samsung, Hyundai, Nishimatsu, SKEC to deliver 40km of deep tunnel and 18 shafts and connecting adits as part of an innovative partnering approach to information. The IDMS contract was delivered by a steering group featuring all of the project stakeholders and became the backbone for information sharing and communication on the project. The MissionOS monitored 48,000 instruments across the project which covered the Thompson and Holland Road Corridors. At one time it had 15 tunnel boring machines operating on a single system making it the largest ever single system implementation for tunneling in the world. The system was required to be the single source of truth for all information and was used in all meetings from executive board down to specialist instrumentation reviews. The canvas system enabled staff to do away with pre-meeting preparation and design storyboards which were automatically refreshed wit...

Looking to digitize and simplify your tender needs? | Tender data management capabilities

In the simplest of terms, tendering refers to the process whereby an organization in need of goods or services invites other parties to submit a proposal / bid to provide them. With the COVID-19 pandemic having pushed digitalisation to become the new norm, clients are seeking the best possible platforms and services to ensure their tender requirements and needs are met. Tenders consist of large volumes of information and data, which is pulled from various sources and compiled into one document, a painstaking task. It is often time consuming, prone to errors and is a critical aspect in creating a tender. What if there was a way to put all this into a digital twin to share raw data and interpretations within a proper context, ensuring everyone understands the job at hand whilst achieving high levels of collaboration? In comes MissionOS, a cloud-based data management system with Tender data management capabilities that helps to address all the needs for clients in today's environmen...
